Dive 106
A friendly neighborhood pub with an aquatic theme

Now that the statute of limitations has long expired, I can safely disclose that my New York drinking history dates back to the late '80s at the venerable Dive Bar on Amsterdam near 96th Street. I'm happy to report that, since those frothy university days, Dive Bar has expanded its original space and added more outposts, including Dive 106, where the staff is unusually warm and inviting.
Rest assured that this cozy little pub's name refers to its aquatic, scuba-themed decor rather than the shabbiness and low-quality fare traditionally associated with dive bars. You will, however, find inexpensive drink specials, and the dress code is decidedly… whatever you want.
As at its sister bars further south, you'll enjoy plumbing the depths of Dive 106's impressive beer selection. (This is where a scuba mask may come in handy!) The food menu also presents some tough choices. I'm currently somewhat obsessed with the patty melt, and the quesadillas (topped with salsa and guac) are tasty and easy to share. For the more adventurous, the grilled Manchego sandwich with bacon and green beans is a must-try.
If you've been to the other Dives, you'll enjoy spotting the little similarities between them, as well as a room full of new faces. I hope to see you there. Cheers!
