Silvana
Upstairs café, downstairs live music club

Upstairs: A relaxed café serving a wide variety of coffees, teas and delicious Middle Eastern yummies. (I've mostly had takeout lunch at Silvana, and my favorites so far are the falafel plate and the Silvana mini salad.) On any given day, you'll find customers at the communal tables chatting over coffee or gazing into laptops. The café also houses a shop with a surprisingly large and quirky collection: handbags from around the world, small-batch incense and candles, greeting cards, scarves, vases and more.
Downstairs: A revolving lineup of fine musicians from around the world and around the city play this groovy, Moroccan-styled basement club. You can hear jazz most nights, with sprinklings of blues, funk, poetry and DJs late into the night. Monday's House of Blues with Phil Young and invited guests is an arresting wall of sound, with talented players and singers whose intensity will stop you in your tracks!
